Building Relationships Via the Web

Social Media Marketing Tech TipsPublished January 1, 2010 at 3:40 pm 3 Comments

I have been working tirelessly for a few months now building solid relationships with people via the net.

Why?

What is the value in having relationships with others we don’t really know? If you are building a “network marketing” business, the essential element is the network.

But, sometimes, it is very hard to make a great connection with someone over a computer, don’t you think?

So… how do we truly build a strong friendship with someone via cyberspace?

If you are going to reach out to someone and make a connection, take a look at their profile, have a sense of who they are first before you reach out.

Remember that behind the computer screen is a person with a set of values themselves and they will remember you when you truly show your interest in their life and their family.

Why is it so important to build a strong connection?

That person will remember you like a needle in the haystack.

They will remember that you didn’t just try to sell them your biz… they will remember that you listened and you truly were interested in them as an individual, first and foremost, before any business discussions took place…. You never know… you may truly gain something very valuable from that friendship…..something more valuable than just signing them up.

Some basic tips on building relationships via the net:

1) Read their information page or profile to learn more about them as an individual.

2) Ask them about their family, their hobbies, their interests

3) Comment on posts, genuinely

4) Offer your friendship; unconditionally

5) Offer support if they need it, you may need it one day as well

6) Remember, building a friendship online is no different than building one in person… be yourself and that will shine through the screen!

Warmly,

Your Friend.. Melissa

    Thanks Melissa,
My biggest issue is spending time networking and my family saying “She’s on Facebook again” like I’m playing or am just goofing off. I guess they’re not crazy about me having other relationships. they just don’t get it! I do have 4 sons and a husband, so sometimes I feel like I’m on a different planet than them! LOL
Thanks for the post, I look forward to more.
    Pam
P.S. Cute picture! What a doll! (you’re both dolls)

      Hi Pam,
It is difficult to balance networking and family, especially when your family has trouble understanding why you use Facebook for business and not necessarily pleasure. I just reassure my family that my time on the computer is my working time and that I am making money doing what I do. When they see that your time on the computer is valuable to family and you are able to set aside certain times for work and times for family, it is easier to juggle. For example, I only check email once a day and try to stick to a Daily Method of Operation. That way, I can fit in more time for my family…

      Hope this helps, Melissa

You sound like you have reading the free ebook “Success in Ten Steps” by Michael Dlouhy. That is his mantra- network marketing is a people business, not a selling business. If you want to be successful in network marketing build people.
